What is it

What is a Word Counter?

A word counter tells you how many words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs are in any piece of text. Most writers use one to hit specific length targets — Twitter's 280 characters, an essay's 1,500-word minimum, a meta description's 160 characters, a LinkedIn post's 3,000-character cap.

TextSight's word counter does the basic count, plus a few things others don't: live reading time and speaking time estimates, your top 10 most-used words, and a Humanization Score that tells you whether your draft reads as human or AI-generated.

It's a single page, runs entirely in your browser, and updates as you type. No signup, no upload, no AI processing of your text unless you click the score button.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the word counter free?

Yes. 100% free, no signup. Runs in your browser — your text never gets sent to a server unless you opt-in to the Humanization Score.

How is the reading time calculated?

Standard reading speed of 250 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute. Both are typical adult averages.

Does it count the words inside hyperlinks or hashtags?

Yes. Anything you can see is counted. The counter splits on whitespace, so https://example.com counts as one "word."

What's the maximum text length?

No limit. The page handles 100,000+ words without slowing down.

How is this different from Microsoft Word's word counter?

Same basic counts. Plus reading time, speaking time, top-10 word frequency, and the Humanization Score that tells you if your draft reads AI-generated.

Does it work in Hindi or other languages?

Yes. Word/character counts work in any language. Reading time estimate assumes English reading speed (close enough for most languages).

Will my text be used to train AI?

No. This tool runs in your browser — text isn't sent anywhere unless you click "Score authenticity," in which case it's sent to TextSight's detection API for that single check (no storage, no training).

Want the Humanization Score too?

3 free scans/day, no card. See if your text reads AI-generated.
