Most "best AI humanizer UK" lists are the same global ranking with the word UK added. There is one thing that genuinely differs for a British writer and almost nobody tests it: whether the rewrite hands you back your own spelling, or quietly turns organisation into organization. Submit that to a UK university and the inconsistency is noticeable.
So we measured it on our own tool and published the numbers below, alongside a comparison on the things you can verify yourself in ten minutes. We rank ourselves first and we are disclosing that this is our product, rather than presenting a vendor page as a neutral review.
We ran this against our own live tool on 4 October 2026. Here is the method and the result.
We gave the humanizer a passage containing 20 distinctly British spellings (organisation, analysed, behaviour, colour, realised, prioritising, centralised, programmes, optimise, labour, neighbours, criticised, defence, practice, favouring, catalogue, standardised, licences, recognised, travelled) and ran it through two settings, then checked the output for the American form of each.
| Setting | British spellings still present | Flipped to American |
|---|---|---|
| Light | 15 of 20 | 0 |
| Balanced | 13 of 20 | 0 |
Nothing was Americanised in either pass. The words that are no longer present were not converted, they were rephrased out: analysed became "looked at", realised became "found", prioritising became "pushing". So the honest claim is narrow and checkable. A rewrite will change which words you use, and it did not change British spelling into American spelling in this test.
Two caveats, because this is one passage on one day. It is a sample rather than a guarantee, and the heavier the setting the more wording is replaced, so more British words disappear by being rewritten away. If your spelling has to survive exactly, use Light and read the highlight.
On the Balanced pass the output contained a sentence that was not in our source at all: "Roughly a year into it." Nothing in the input mentioned a timescale. That is worth more attention than the spelling result, because it is the real risk in this category: a rewrite can add a specific-sounding detail you never wrote. It is also exactly why the highlight of changed words matters more than the score, and why we would rather show you this than leave it out of our own comparison page.
Every column is something you can confirm yourself with a free tier and one paragraph.
| Tool | Shows what changed | Re-scores its own output | Run it with no account |
|---|---|---|---|
| TextSight | Word-level highlight | Yes, before and after, labelled as ours | Yes, 3/day up to 260 words, no card |
| Undetectable.ai | No diff | No | No, account required |
| StealthGPT | No diff | No | No, account required |
| WriteHuman | No diff | No | No, account required |
| QuillBot | No AI diff | No | No, account required |
| HumanizeAI | No diff | No | No, account required |
Why these columns. Each is verifiable in ten minutes. A bypass rate is not, which is the whole argument for comparing this way. No vendor can see Turnitin's verdict on your document, so a published pass rate is a number someone chose.
Shows what changed matters most for UK coursework, because the risk in a rewrite is not style, it is a claim moving. If a tool hands back prose with no diff, you cannot tell whether a citation now supports something your source never said. Or whether a timescale was invented, as above.
Re-scores its own output tells you whether a tool measures what it produced or just asserts it worked. We score before and after with our own detector and label the reading as ours.
Run it with no account is the column that decides most evaluations, and it is the one real structural difference: ours is the only tool here you can run on your own paragraph without creating anything or entering a card. The others require an account first, whether or not they then give you a free allowance. We have deliberately not published each competitor's free word cap on this page, because those figures move often and our own material currently disagrees with itself about one of them. Rather than repeat a number we have not re-checked, the row states the thing that holds either way.
Undetectable.ai rewrites harder in a single pass than we do, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The cost is choppier prose, a flattened voice and no diff to catch meaning drift. For a blog post that is a fair trade. For a dissertation chapter it is not. If you already pay for QuillBot and want paraphrasing in the same place you write, staying there is reasonable. And if what you need is a heavier rewrite than Light or Balanced gives you, that is a real reason to look elsewhere rather than something we will talk you out of.
Shorter than the rest of this page, because less is UK-specific than these lists imply.
Genuinely different: spelling, as above. And Turnitin's position in UK higher education, which is near-universal, so Turnitin is usually the checker that matters rather than one of several. That does not give us or anyone else visibility into its verdict.
Not actually different: the detectors' underlying behaviour, which is not tuned per country, and the way an AI humanizer rewrites. A tool that works on American English works on British English, spelling aside.
What we will not tell you is what your institution permits. UK universities set their own academic misconduct rules and they differ on AI assistance, including between departments at the same institution. Your course handbook is the authority, not a vendor page. What tends to happen at a UK institution covers the process side, and how to prepare evidence covers the case where you are already accused. In that case, do not rewrite the draft: your version history is the defence and a rewrite damages it.
Ours, on the criteria that can be verified: it is the only tool in the comparison that highlights what changed, re-scores its own output with its own detector, and runs free on your own writing without an account. We disclose that this is our own product. On a measured test it also preserved British spelling, with 0 of 20 British words converted to American form across two settings. Undetectable.ai rewrites harder in one pass and QuillBot is the better pick if you already pay for it, so those are the honest alternatives depending on what you weight.
It did not in our test. We ran a passage with 20 distinctly British spellings through two settings on 4 October 2026 and none were converted to the American form: 15 of 20 survived on Light and 13 on Balanced, with the rest rephrased out rather than Americanised. That is one passage on one day rather than a guarantee, and the heavier the setting the more wording gets replaced, so use the lighter setting and read the highlight if your spelling must survive exactly.
Yes, with no account: 3 humanizations a day at up to 260 words each, with the before and after AI score and the changed words shown. It resets daily rather than being a one-off trial. Whether using one is permitted on your coursework is set by your university rather than by us, and UK institutions differ, including between departments. Your course handbook is the authority.
No, and you should treat a tool that claims a pass rate as unreliable on everything else too. Turnitin does not expose its verdict to third-party products, so no vendor can measure its own output against it. Turnitin is near-universal in UK higher education, which makes the claim more tempting and no more true. What a tool can honestly show you is its own score and what it changed in your text.
Yes, and we caught it in our own test for this page. On the Balanced pass the output contained the sentence "Roughly a year into it", and nothing in our source mentioned any timescale. This is the real risk in the category, more than style: an invented detail that sounds specific. It is why the word-level highlight matters more than the score, and why you should read the changes rather than the prose, particularly around numbers, dates and citations.
Our current prices and billing currencies are on the plans page rather than quoted here, because a figure copied onto a comparison page goes stale and then misleads. We are not going to state what other vendors charge in pounds either, since we have not verified their UK billing and would be guessing.
