Monica alternatives: split the assistant from the tool you actually used

Monica is one subscription doing perhaps a dozen jobs, so "a Monica alternative" is not a single product. Before comparing anything, answer one question: in the last month, did you mostly chat with models, mostly process PDFs and images, or mostly run text through the AI detector? Each answer leads somewhere different, and only one of them leads here.

Served by /api/tools/score. Without signing in you get 3 checks a day, pooled across the AI Detector and Document Detector, with a 1,000 word input cap. A free account raises it to 60 checks a day at 5,000 words with history. Starter gets 200 a day, Pro and above are unlimited, and the minimum input is 25 words. Scores under 30 read as likely human-written, 30 to 69 as mixed signals, 70 and above as likely AI-generated.

Where Monica is still the better choice

For most people reading this, honestly, it is.

Monica's own site lists a browser extension for Chrome and Edge, desktop apps for Windows and Mac, mobile apps for Android and iOS, a coding assistant for VSCode and JetBrains IDEs, image tools, PDF tools, a translator, a podcast generator, a mind map maker and audio transcription, alongside a menu of models including Claude, GPT and Gemini families (monica.im/tools/ai-content-detector navigation, checked 16 August 2026). Its interface is offered in more than twenty languages including Bahasa Indonesia, Čeština, Deutsch, Español, Français, Português, Русский, Tiếng Việt, 日本語, 한국어, العربية and हिन्दी (same page and date).

Nothing else in this comparison covers that surface area. If you use even four of those things, unbundling means four subscriptions, four logins and four bills. That is usually worse.

Two practical details from Monica's own pages, in case you are on the fence:

  • Free access is real but rationed. Monica's site states that free users get 8 slow advanced queries per day, with the count resetting at midnight daily, and that free users can translate only the first 5 pages of a document (monica.im/pricing, checked 16 August 2026).
  • Its refund window is short and specific. Monica states you can contact support within 72 hours of a monthly or annual renewal or upgrade for a refund of the most recent payment, that pro-rated refunds are not offered for annual payments, and that refunds take 5 to 10 business days (monica.im/pricing, checked 16 August 2026).

We were not able to verify Monica's plan prices from Monica's own pricing page, so no figure for Monica appears anywhere on this page. We do not publish numbers we cannot read off the vendor's own site.

If it was specifically the AI detector

This is the one case where a narrower tool may genuinely serve you better, so it is worth understanding what Monica's detector actually is.

Monica's detector page describes the tool as combining three third-party engines: "We currently integrated 3 AI detection models, including GPTZero, CopyLeaks, and ZeroGPT" (monica.im/tools/ai-content-detector, checked 16 August 2026). The same page advertises "98% detection accuracy" and states elsewhere in its interface copy that "2 detectors are locked" until you upgrade (same page and date). Its paste box is labelled 0 /250 words (same page and date).

That design cuts both ways. An aggregator gives you several opinions at once, which is genuinely useful for a borderline document. It also means the underlying judgement is not Monica's, and the 250 word input limit makes it awkward for anything longer than an abstract.

The accuracy figure is Monica's own published claim about its own service. No shared public benchmark scores these tools, so it cannot be compared against a number from any other vendor, and we publish no competing figure for that reason.

Who each option suits

Stay on Monica if you use the chat, the apps, the extension or the PDF and image tooling regularly. Replacing an assistant with a detector is a category error, and we are not going to encourage it.

Move to Smodin if what you valued was the writing side and the chat, and you also want plagiarism checking. Its Starter tier at $12.99 per month, or $10 per month billed annually, lists all core tools included (smodin.io/pricing, checked 16 August 2026).

Move to Netus AI if you want breadth plus a permanently free floor. Its $0 plan lists 50 credits per month and unlimited AI detector usage (netus.ai/pricing, checked 16 August 2026), and its homepage lists a Multi AI Chat among its 18 tools (netus.ai, checked 16 August 2026).

Move to Isgen if detection was the job and you work in more than one language, or need image detection. It states support for over 80 languages and lists an AI Image Detector among its tools (isgen.ai, checked 16 August 2026).

Move to GPTinf if it was really the humanizer you were opening every day.

Add TextSight rather than switching to it, in most cases. The realistic pattern is keeping an assistant for the general work and using a dedicated detector for the checking, because the two do not overlap much. On our side that gives you sentence-level analysis and PDF export from Starter upward, file upload, URL scan and bulk scan, a Chrome extension and a REST API from Pro upward, and teams with branded reports from Business upward.

One limitation to weigh first, since Monica users are often multilingual: our detector is English-only, an ensemble of DeBERTa, RoBERTa and ELECTRA, with a known false-positive bias against writers who learned English as a second language. If you work across the languages Monica's interface supports, a multilingual detector such as Isgen or a multilingual suite such as Smodin will serve you better than we will.

Monica alternatives alternatives, frequently asked.

Is a dedicated AI detector really better than Monica's?
Different, not automatically better. Monica aggregates three external engines, giving you several readings at once (monica.im/tools/ai-content-detector, checked 16 August 2026). A dedicated detector gives you one model's reasoning in more depth, with sentence-level detail and exportable reports.
What is the input limit on Monica's detector?
Its detector page shows a paste box labelled 0 /250 words (monica.im/tools/ai-content-detector, checked 16 August 2026). For comparison, a free TextSight account allows 5,000 words per check, 60 times a day.
Can I replace Monica with one cheaper tool?
Only if you were using one part of it. Smodin and Netus AI are the closest by breadth in this comparison, and neither covers Monica's image, PDF and coding surface. Map your last month of usage before you cancel anything.
Which of these is free to try without a card?
Netus AI publishes a $0 monthly plan (netus.ai/pricing, checked 16 August 2026). Isgen's homepage detector box is labelled "No Sign Up To Start" and accepts up to 5,000 characters (isgen.ai, checked 16 August 2026). TextSight allows 3 anonymous checks per day at up to 1,000 words, and 60 per day at 5,000 words with a free account.
Why does this page not list Monica's prices?
Because we could not read them off Monica's own pricing page, and we do not republish pricing sourced from third parties. Check monica.im/pricing yourself for current figures.
Does TextSight do anything Monica does not?
A few narrow things: sentence-level analysis of what drove a detection score, PDF report export, bulk scanning, URL scanning, a REST API from Pro upward, and branded team reports from Business upward. Everything else Monica does, from image generation to PDF conversion to multi-model chat, we do not do at all.
