Overview
The short version:
- Use TextSight lawfully, honestly, and in line with any rules that apply to you.
- Don't use our tools to deceive people, commit fraud, or pass off authorship dishonestly.
- Don't break your school's, employer's, or platform's policies through TextSight.
- Don't spam, harass, infringe others' rights, or attack the service.
- Pair detection results with human judgment — no detector is infallible.
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") explains how you may and may not use TextSight — our AI content detection, Authenticity Score, humanization, and related tools — operated by Lacewing Technologies ("we", "us", "TextSight"). It applies to everyone who uses the website, web app, browser extensions, mobile apps, and API. This AUP is part of, and incorporated into, our Terms of Service; by using TextSight you agree to follow it.
Our tools are built to help people understand content authenticity and improve their own writing. The uses below are prohibited. This list gives examples and is not exhaustive — if something clearly runs against the spirit of honest, lawful use, treat it as off-limits.
No illegal or unlawful use
You may not use TextSight for any purpose that is illegal, or to create, distribute, or facilitate content or activity that is unlawful in the jurisdictions that apply to you. This includes, without limitation:
- Any activity that violates applicable laws or regulations.
- Content that exploits or endangers minors, including any child sexual abuse material.
- Facilitating fraud, money laundering, trafficking, or other criminal conduct.
- Producing or distributing content that is illegal where you or your audience are located.
No impersonation, fraud, or deception
TextSight may not be used to deceive people about who created content or where it came from. Specifically, you may not:
- Impersonate any person, organization, or entity, or falsely claim affiliation with one.
- Misrepresent the authorship or origin of content in order to deceive a reader, reviewer, customer, employer, or institution.
- Use our humanization tools to disguise AI-generated content as human-written where doing so is meant to defraud or mislead someone who is relying on that representation.
- Engage in phishing, scams, or any scheme that uses deceptive content to obtain money, credentials, or sensitive information.
Editing, paraphrasing, or refining your own writing to read more naturally is fine. Using these tools to lie to someone who is depending on the truth of your claims is not.
No academic dishonesty
If you are a student, you must follow your institution's rules, honor codes, and assessment policies. If you are an educator or administrator, use TextSight as one input to support your own academic-integrity processes, not as a sole verdict.
- Do not use TextSight to commit academic dishonesty, to misrepresent work as your own, or to defeat an assessment in violation of your institution's policies.
- Do not use TextSight to circumvent an institution's rules, honor codes, plagiarism policies, or permitted-use guidelines for AI.
- Students and educators are responsible for knowing and following the policies of their school, course, or program. When in doubt, ask your instructor or institution before using AI tools on graded work.
AI detection scores are probabilistic and can be wrong in both directions. They should never be the sole basis for an accusation or a disciplinary decision. See AI detection limitations and our responsible AI guidance.
No spam, fake reviews, or deceptive mass content
You may not use TextSight to generate or distribute:
- Spam, bulk unsolicited messages, or deceptive mass-produced content.
- Fake reviews, fake testimonials, fabricated endorsements, or astroturfing.
- Coordinated inauthentic content designed to manipulate ratings, rankings, or public opinion.
- Content created to deceive search engines, platforms, or audiences at scale.
No harassment, hate, or content that violates others' rights
- No content that harasses, bullies, threatens, or intimidates any person.
- No hate speech or content that promotes violence or discrimination against people based on protected characteristics.
- No content that invades someone's privacy, including non-consensual intimate imagery or doxxing.
- No content that otherwise violates the legal rights, safety, or dignity of others.
No intellectual-property infringement
You may only submit content you have the right to use. Specifically, you may not:
- Upload, scan, or process content that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual-property rights.
- Submit confidential or proprietary material that you are not authorized to share with a third-party service.
- Use TextSight output in a way that infringes the rights of others.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights and permissions for any content you submit.
No technical abuse of the service
To keep TextSight reliable and secure for everyone, you may not:
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or degrade the service (for example, denial-of-service activity or sending malformed traffic).
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, models, or underlying systems, except where that right cannot be restricted by law.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems without authorization, or breach or circumvent any security or authentication measures.
- Gain or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data.
- Introduce malware, or use the service to distribute malicious code.
Security researchers: good-faith vulnerability reports are welcome and are handled under our
Security page and responsible-disclosure guidance — that work is not a violation of this AUP.
No scraping, plan abuse, or unauthorized reselling
- Do not scrape the service or use automated means to access it outside our published API and your plan's limits.
- Do not abuse the API, share credentials to evade limits, or attempt to exceed the usage allowances of your plan.
- Do not resell, sublicense, or repackage TextSight output or access as a competing AI-detection or humanization service without our prior written permission.
If you want to build on TextSight or offer it as part of a product, get in touch — we're open to legitimate partnerships through the right agreement.
Responsible, honest use
How to use detection results well. No AI detector is perfect. Treat TextSight's scores as a signal to investigate, not a final judgment — and always combine them with human review and context before acting on them.
We expect responsible, honest use of all our tools. Detection scores are probabilistic estimates, and false positives and false negatives are possible. Do not present a TextSight score as conclusive proof, and do not make high-stakes decisions about a person on the basis of a score alone. For more, read AI detection limitations and our responsible AI guidance.
Enforcement
If we believe you have violated this AUP, our Terms of Service, or applicable law, we may take action proportionate to the violation. Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- Issuing a warning and asking you to stop the prohibited activity.
- Limiting, suspending, or rate-limiting access to some or all features.
- Removing or disabling access to offending content where we are able to.
- Suspending or terminating your account.
- Where appropriate or legally required, reporting the activity to the relevant authorities.
We aim to be fair and, where practical, to give notice and an opportunity to fix the issue. For serious violations — such as illegal content, fraud, or attacks on the service — we may act immediately and without prior notice.
Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using TextSight in violation of this policy, or you've encountered abuse, fraud, or infringing content connected to our service, please tell us. Reach us through our contact page with as much detail as you can, including links and steps to reproduce where relevant. For security vulnerabilities specifically, follow the process on our Security page.
